Augen lügen nicht; sie sind die Fenster zur Seele.
Augen sind das Zentrum und der Blickfang meiner Porträts. Ich suche die Auseinandersetzung mit ausdrucksstarken Gesichtern und den direkten Augenkontakt. Ich möchte, dass der Blick des Betrachters auf bestimmte Punkte gelenkt werden und immer wieder dorthin zurückkehren und so Geschichten entstehen.

Am Anfang jedes Bildes steht ein Gesicht, ein Blick, ein Augenkontakt, der mich fesselt und den ich festhalten möchte. Speziell in der Serie tell me the story provoziert zusätzlich ein weißes Element und treibt die Geschichte an. 

In diesem Stadium arbeite ich meist mit groben Handskizze, die als Ausgangsidee dienen. Die Vorbereitung des Untergrunds ist für mich meditativ und ergibt bereits Bild für sich selbst. Dieser wird bis vielfach überspachtelt und gibt mir die Option, mit Medien zu arbeiten, die eine feine Oberfläche benötigen. In dieser Phase schätze Kohle und Ölpastelle, um schichtweise Formen und Lichtpunkte herauszuarbeiten. So nähere ich mich kontinuierlich meiner Aussage und erziele die Tiefe. Als Gegensatz dazu verwende ich im Hintergrund meist Acryl, flächig mit Spachtel und Roller aufgetragen, um den plakativen Gegensatz zu erzielen.

Die Zeltplane als Untergrund dient mir als Erinnerung, ohne erdrückend oder mahnend wirken zu wollen. Am Rande erfahre ich einige der weltweiten Krisengebiete. Als Optimist glaube ich an die Wichtigkeit guter Gedanken. Als Realist weiss ich, dass nur Glück darüber entscheidet, wo man geboren ist, und dies definiert, wie jeder Einzelne an Freiheit, Frieden und Reichtum teilhaben kann.

Ich liebe etwas Bleibendes zu erschaffen und wünsche mir, dass ein kurzer Augenblick nicht ausreicht, um meine Arbeit zu betrachten. Ich geniesse es, wenn jemand sich gezwungen fühlen, stehen zu bleiben, nochmals hinzuschauen und Gedanken, Fantasien und Fragen entstehen.

Eyes don’t lie; they are the windows to the soul.
Eyes are the center and focal point of my portraits. I seek engagement with expressive faces and direct eye contact. I want the viewer’s gaze to be drawn to specific points and to return to them again and again, allowing stories to emerge.

At the beginning of each painting, there is a face, a glance, an eye contact that captivates me and that I want to capture. Especially in the series tell me the story, a white element adds provocation and drives the narrative forward.
At this stage, I usually work with rough hand sketches that serve as the initial idea. Preparing the surface is a meditative process for me and already forms a picture in itself. It is often layered with filler multiple times, giving me the option to work with media that require a fine surface. In this phase, I value charcoal and oil pastels to build up shapes and highlights layer by layer. This is how I gradually approach the message and achieve depth.

As a contrast to the faces, I usually use acrylic paint in the background—applied flatly with a spatula and roller—to create a bold, graphic effect.
 The tent canvas as a base serves as a personal reminder—without wanting to appear oppressive or admonishing—of the global crisis zones I have experienced on the periphery. As an optimist, I believe in the importance of good thoughts. As a realist, I know that only luck determines where one is born, and this defines how each individual can participate in freedom, peace, and prosperity.

I love creating something lasting and wish that a brief moment of looking is not enough to take in my work. I enjoy it when someone feels compelled to stop, look again, and let thoughts, fantasies, stories, and questions arise.
